I'm getting a number of people wanting to be completely spoiled for Boytown because of my warning in this post, so I'll post it here.

They get on the plane to go to the US to perform at the Grammys, which they didn't get to do the first time around in their career because they broke up just before. Everyone's so happy, one guy's wife is pregnant again, another guy has finally admitted he's gay and hooked up with the adorable tour manager etc. They start talking about stopping again, cause they've achieved what they wanted to achieve (lame!) and then go to the cockpit. One group member always plays with soundboards and ruins them, and while they're singing for the pilots/air traffic controllers, he fiddles with something.

Yup, plane crashes, everyone dies. They do go down singing, and then appear from heaven to sing to their families at the funeral, but it completely ruined the happy feel-good vibe of the movie for us.

Hence our recommendation - once they board the plane, leave the cinema and they all live happily ever after, making the cheesiest music ever together.

*cough* Rather sounds familiar (except for the whole crashing and dying bit), doesn't it? Gay, pregnant, blah blah.

That is without doubt one of the lamest endings I have ever heard. And thank you very kindly for the warning.

I think I'll wait to dl the fandom edit, whick will cut straight from them boarding the plane to the credits :-)

as soon as you mentioned the plane I figured there was a crash. I agree, movie endings like that suck.

I was expecting it to turn into something good, like they survived but their skeevy manager delayed letting people know because it was good publicity. But no, THEY WERE DEAD!

My edit would be that during the conversation about stopping again, they look at each and grin, "naaaaah!" and make a toast or something. Then cut to one of those "what happened next"-type montages during the credits, about their albums and kids etc.

I would have come out of the film recommending it to pop fans and others alike, if it wasn't for the ending. And possibly bought the soundtrack. Unless there's an alternate good ending on the dvd, they ain't getting anymore money from me.

The group broke up in the first place cause of one of the guys going solo ;)

I am trying very hard to not be amused here. It's not working.

It's a lot more New Kids on the Block and Take That, but there's a bit of stuff ripping on groups like Nsync and BSB too.

Heh, wasn't sure if you'd go for the vague warning or the detailed one. But as soon as the film ended, I was like "I have to warn the others, especially Al".

There's a lot of other good stuff in the movie, but yeah, the ending kind of ruins it.

So they bypassed their senses of humour at the end? Idiots.

Will still get it out on DVD I imagine, but I'll follow your advice.

I just don't understand *what* they were thinking. It's still worth watching for the rest of it (nothing brilliant, but funny), but as soon as they get on the plane for the grammys, that's where the film ends :)

Um, what's funny about all this is that [livejournal.com profile] veronamay, [livejournal.com profile] melpemone and I all agreed that that is a fantastic ending - not out of any anti-boyband bloodymindedness or meanness, but because our senses of humour all seem skewed that way :-)

That sort of ending can work, but just sank like a stone in this film for me. I think it was especially the whole Glenn Robbins character expecting a baby and other stuff that made it so lame for me.
