Self-centred weather forecasting

My absolutely least favourite thing about Australian summers[1]: Hot days with strong norwesterly winds blowing, the air is filled with smoke, and I can't figure out where the fire is near us. Further away, sadly homes have been lost near Picton to bushfire.

I apologise to everyone dealing with these conditions, clearly it's our fault: my sister and her friends are running a tennis day today to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation. I spent a while there, and the DOZENS of cupcakes that I spent yesterday baking were selling well/

Oh great, sirens. Fuel my paranoia some more, go on.

and it's only spring!

According to my mum there's fires up at Wyong as well. It's going to be a godawful fire season.

We had smoke come up suddenly in our valley a little while ago. I called the local bush firies and they said it was coming from out Baulkham Hills way. It's cleared now.

The wind is terrible.

I've heard there's one at Galston Gorge (the St Johns ambulance guy at the tennis day had to leave early to head off to that).

I wish I could make cakes for this weekend, but I don't think they'd travel well!
