Lance article in Who

I picked up a copy of Who this morning, as they are carrying the People article - and it was even across the bottom of the cover (which surprised me a bit, Nsync was never that big here).



It's still so surreal to actually see it in print. When I picked up the magazine a few minutes ago, it looked like...I don't know, a fan manip or something.

hee. That's actually what I thought when I saw your post yesterday morning with the People cover. It was the very first mention I'd seen and at first I totally thought it was a manip.

Realizing it wasn't was even more bizarre. *g*

I watched very little. As a rule, shows like that irritate the snot out of me because they frequently cross the line into invasive, but yes, I did see some. And yes, it was.

It's a serious cognitive dissonance, isn't it? I don't want to reduce Lance's life to fanfic, but we've read/written/talked about a popboy coming out so much, that it's just...weird for it to have actually happened.

Fantastic, of course. But still mindboggling. Like watching the entertainment shows was too.

We kind of knew it for years, but to actually see it on paper instead on a fan squee or fan fic? Feels weird.

Yep. And yet, not as weird as if it had been pretty much anyone else BUT Lance. Or possibly Howie. They're definitely the ones that fandom has voted PopBoy Mostly Likely. I'd be really fucking shocked if say Chris or Nick came out. But Lance? Not even the tiniest bit surprised.

I have to keep reminding myself it's real. I used a lot of real events when I was writing the Epic, and now, it's *really* real. It's kind of disorienting.

I was describing it to littlerhymes today, and with each twist in the tale (Justin hadn't been told face-to-face! Diane found out about it online! Joey walked in on Lance with a guy!), it was like I was describing some awesomely cracktastic fanfic. I'm surprised to see it in Who so quickly and prominently as well.

It felt like back in the last week of June when the new Letterboys pictures surfaced. I literally could not believe it, and when people IM'd me to tell me about it I really thought they were joking. It's the same thing now, except this is much, much bigger.

I want to go YES, YES to everyone in this comment thread. *laughs* I was in the store and I actually felt weird in the magazine aisle, looking at Lance and "I'M GAY". Like my tinhat finally got too tight and let my crazy leak into the world. I wanted to tug my mother's sleeve and say, "You see that too, right? Lance is gay?"

Thanks. I did go back in your lj, and see, when I told you I needed more sparkly pop boys fans on my flist, this is what I meant. I just fired the flist because none of them even realized how important that piece of news was to me and so no one told me! But that aside, I'm just happy he's happy. Reading about the whole thing has put a smile on my face.

At least then we'd be so distracted by the "Really? Chris?" factor to be less shocked by them actually being out ;)

Personally, I have a new theory about why Kevin left the group. He guessed that Lance would be coming out soon, and really wanted to beat Nsync to the punch by having their own openly gay member. However, the others (even Howie) kept insisting they were all straight, and Kevin felt so betrayed that none of them would come out, that he quit the group.
