Another video editing question

People were so helpful yesterday, and I'm hoping to impose again with another question about the farewell video T is making for my s-i-l.

We're trying to find footage of film melting away to white/breaking/going offscreen, to transistion from the soppy beginning to the upbeat main portion of the video. I can totally picture seeing this sort of thing being used in a heap of shows/movies, but can't think specifically of any that I'd have to be able to rip.

Can anyone think of anywhere I could get footage like that, either online or from a movie/show?

I can see 'em in my head, but do you think I can think of a single one? I'll keep thinking, I hate being defeated by this stuff.

I wonder if Fight Club has one? It uses the film-as-part-of-the-movie motif more than once, but I can't recall an actual film-burny moment.

I was thinking Fight Club as well, but couldn't think of this effect specifically. I know it's MST3K the movie, but I only have a crappy VCR copy of that (it was released on dvd briefly - I'd try and pick up a copy on ebay but when they do get sold, it's for well over a $100!!!!)

I loved it too - even though Ken Branagh annoys me much of the time - especially his OTT-ness in the realisation monologue. But then Much Ado is my favourite play in the world and I have far too many opinions about it for any one production/film to capture the essence in my head. I'll just have to direct it one day.

It's no problem, do you have a preference for starting color or anything? And do you prefer fading or something else?

Maybe just from dark (but not completely black) to white? I'm not quite sure what T will be transitioning from and to, but they should fit. You're a gem!

Do you have a preference as to how I get it to you? I can either upload it somewhere like sendspace or zupload, or I can try to email it to you. I don't have webspace of my own, or I'd just upload it there. The one I have made is dark gray fading into white, but I can try something else if it doesn't work like you want it to.

Probably an upload site might be best (whichever works best for you), my email can be snappy about big files). I'll give it to T at work tomorrow, and see how it works for him. Thank you so much! :)
