Nsync's tenth anniversary

Please don't direct link to the files, or link to my journal on message boards or communities. I was going to get this ready during the week, but yeah, that didn't happen *g*. So, not as coherent as I'd hoped, but enjoy! Warning for dialup users - lots of pictures.
Ten years ago today, Nsync did their first public performance, at Pleasure Island at Disney World. This was only weeks after Lance joined the group, and less than a year later, they would sign a record contract.

Who could have forseen them going from that performance, or this rendition of the anthem at the Orlando Arena
+ National Anthem, 1995 - 12 meg
To performing at the closing ceremony to the Winter Olympics, and doing a concert there.
+ Winter Olympics 2000 - National Anthem - 11 meg

It's been a hell of a journey since those early days.

+ I Thought She Knew (alternative demo version) - 3 meg
And their start in Germany.
+ I Want You Back, 1996 - 22 meg

But they did it together.

Including overcoming many challenges to become one of the biggest groups in the US and set amazing sales records.
But no matter how big they got, they never lost their sense of humour.
+ Road to Celebrity - first MTV performance flashback - 16 meg
+ Live at Much 2001 - first performance at Much flashback - 8 meg
Or their excitement at winning (their numerous) awards.
+ 1999 AMAs - 7 meg

They were on more magazine covers than you could count.

Let alone the photoshoots.

And their incredibly fun interactions on so many tv shows and appearances (and willingness to parody themselves) just cemented their popularity.

+ MTV Spring Break - 13 meg
Or intrigued us for other reasons, when on rare occasions the good humour faded.
+ Wango Tango 2000 - 6 meg
They made funny and gorgeous videos, put on amazing tours and shows, including one the biggest stadium tours ever, concert dvds, awards show performances, tv concert and their IMAX film.

+ Atlantis - Up Against the Wall - 21 meg
+ Celebrity tour - Beatles zip - 7 meg

Though their fashion sense was sometimes...interesting.

Their fame and fans became unbelievable...and occasionally too much.
+ Pop Odyssey - fan on stage - 7 meg
And in the last few years, there have still been group projects to enjoy.
+ When You Wish Upon A Star (a capella) - 2 meg
+ 2003 Grammys BeeGees Tribute - 14 meg

And really, despite all the fame and accomplishments, I believe they never stopped being these dorky boys. And that's why we love them.

chairs gag - 0.5 meg
So celebrate Nsync!
On a personal note - it was almost three years ago (in a couple of weeks) that I started reading popslash (thanks
hnix!). At first, I didn't know one from another (hell, I couldn't have told you if Justin Timberlake was from Nsync or BSB), and I didn't want to watch footage, I just wanted to read the fiction. There was mention of deep deep shame. Then we started to watch. And listen. And suddenly I owned cds and dvds and would get annoyed when people would say that they can't sing *g* (And one group was enough, don't bother showing me anything from those other guys...). I've seen Justin in concert, and travelled around the world to see Nsync in Chicago. I've made amazing friends, and gotten to meet some of them in person, and gotten so much enjoyment from Nsync's music and the guys themselves. Call me foolish, but I do believe that we will get more group stuff. In the meantime, bring on the solo albums and projects to support and enjoy. And here's to the next ten years.
Chris, JC, Joey, Lance and Justin - you'll never know how much I enjoy being your fan.
Thank you.
PS - I suck and haven't finished posting about CFTC, so haven't posted this before. Here's my one of my favourite Nsync moments.
