Had a delicious Thai meal in Newtown for dinner last night. It was an old school friend's birthday, and then we went to this little theatre and saw the Best of Short and Sweet, the winning monologues from a competition. The best one conceptually was Minnie Mouse in Sydney recovering from her attempted suicide. It was just amazingly done.

I'm making dvds of my parents' video footage from their holiday in South Australia. I should make some clips of the adorable seal footage they have (or some of the seal stuff from their South American trip), they are so cute.

Dad asked if I wanted to take the video camera with me to the US/Canada, but it'd just be another thing to look after, and I'm already taking two cameras (film and digital).

Also, there may be a problem with Not Like You, a lot of people are reporting getting trojan virus warnings from the pop-up ads (which aren't directly controlled by NLY), so you might want to avoid the site for a while.

Oh fuck me. The file it took two hours to make was in the wrong format to burn to dvd. Argh.

You know, if I went by comments, I'd think that the Nsync stuff I post is only of about the same or less interest as the Backstreet clips. But if I look at my website stats, they are very popular, getting downloaded by ten times as many people who comment. Interesting. Not that everyone who downloads anything comments, but the rate seems to be better on BSB stuff lately. Plus the stats don't tell the full story. For instance, it says that the wmv of the Incomplete video was downloaded 300 times. This would have used 7 gig, but it says it only used 2.5 gig. As with the Nsync RS interview, it says it was downloaded 150 times, which should be 3.7 gig, but it says about 1.9 gig. This is why commenting is good, I know what people are interested in and what I should post, and I don't entirely trust my website stats. And really, this is mostly me contemplating the stats pages, not bitching. Though I do really appreciate those who take the time to comment when they download.

I think the bsb fen are more grateful and less jaded on the availability of clips ;) NSync fandom is absolutely entitlement-based; an appearance will air, and people will start frantically kvetching, "where's a clip a clip a clip is someone going to make a clip!" -- and it's like, dude. You don't ask for someone to dub it for you anymore?

or the people who ask for *tons* of stuff in popmediafinders -- I just want to give them the url to bruce's site -- but I don't :)

this sounds like I'm bitter, but I'm not. I'm enjoying it now that I just do it when I feel like it. but still. it's an interesting phenomenon within fandom.

I think I'm downloading either group about equally (and I ALWAYS comment and I never share a link) . . . Mostyly because I am a hiatus fan and, because of that, missed TONS.

It's not really fair to just lump the N'Sync fans like that. I am grateful for what material I can get since I missed it the first time around and know I won't likely find it again. BUT, I also don't ask for blah blah blah. If it gets hosted, great. If not? Ok, too.

Also? Haven't wandered to Bruce's site. I think that would be a DANGEROUS place for me. *g*

I'm sorry, but it's absolutely fair. I've offered downloads in my lj both publicly and friends locked, had a journal just for downloads for a year -- and I know what I'm talking about. I'm not saying all fans are like that, but it's very much true in my experience. A lot of people are grateful, but there's very much a sense of entitlement, where fans don't realize how lucky they are.

when I got into the fandom, there was pretty much one source of clips if you didn't know someone to dub footage -- that was dacey, and the puppy shelter. Slowly, more people got the capability to make clips, and share them, and sometimes I got lucky enough to get them, and sometimes I didn't. And eventually bruce got more well known, and video capture setups got cheaper and we've got clips available pretty readily. but if you go to other fandoms, it's just not like that -- and people don't realize how good they have it.

You're coming out of the woodwork and acting like I personally insulted you when I simply said that a lot of people act a certain way. You can disagree all you want with what I said, I really don't give a shit. I said what I thought, based on my experience in providing downloads, and you know, I figured that would show I'm not just making stuff up. Whatever. I'm done arguing with you, you can be insulted and hurt and all that all you want, it's clearly what you want.

As an NSYNC fan, I have to say the sense of entitlement in this fandom drives me crazy sometimes. I'm also guilty of it at times, or maybe I would call it more taking things for granted than feeling owed. But I don't always say thank you, although I try.

I have a special icon I use for posts about entitlement, except I hardly ever make them, because what would be the point? Keyword-voracious.

yeah, I don't talk about it much either, because mostly, people don't want to hear it (ahem...), and a lot of the time, it's other people who offer a lot of stuff for download who really get it. but you're very cool about thanking and just sharing your enjoyment and excitement -- that's most of the reason I do it; to share the squee with other people :)

I wonder if its also related to a lot of the Nsync footage being older (whether it's commonly available or not), while (some of) the BSB footage is new?
