Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic!

Sorry the guys weren't ready (damn popstars), but I hope you have a lovely birthday *g*.

I get mocked by certain people for my habit of reading LiveDaily on a semi-regular basis. I point out I get useful information from there sometimes, and yet they still mock *sigh*.

Anyway, came across a cute thing. Apparently one of the guys who used to be in the BSB band, Tommy Smith (also co-wrote stuff with Brian, and performed in JNN shows and things) had a website bsbband.com (before he ended up in O-Town's band). Site isn't there anymore, but you can read most of it via the Wayback machine here. The parts worth reading are particularly the faqs, there are some cute little anecdotes plus much mocking of stupid questions he was sent. A few that entertained me:

What is the weirdest thing you know about the Backstreet Boys?
That they are still honest. That just floors me.
Oh yeah, and that they're really mutant lizards from outer space.

Does Nick bite fans?
Fans?.....no, not fans. At least no-one has been able to prove it.

Are the Backstreet Boys Y2K compliant?
We have run several tests (vocal, dancing, smiling, autograph signing), all Backstreet Boys seem to be operating error free at this time, although there have been a few glitches. Howie insists that he is actually a Spanish bullfighter, we are not certain if this is Y2K related or not. Nick keeps trying to play video games in "year 2000 mode" (meaning that everyone else has to let him win). Kevin's eyebrows have passed with flying colors and so has Brian's heart. AJ is the only one showing errors. He keeps mumbling something about "Johnny Suede". We think this is the only Y2K related bug to surface in the Backstreet Boys. We are continually testing the AJ brain scans to find the problem. Please be assured we are doing everything we can and we think we have the virus under control. But please be aware, for you own sake, there may be some hair dying or floor humping before this is over. Please reset your Backstreet Boys clocks and hope for the best.

i just wanna know if it's true that there were oxygen tanks backstage for Brian during concerts?
LOL ........No, where did you hear that? Anyway its not true. Brian is perfectly fine. (interesting, I'd be sad to lose that piece of evil management canon *g*).

Tommie, I would like to know why the bsb always say whooo during some of the songs, is that so that people will believe that they are playing live?
No, they just like to say whoo.

Does A.J. dye his hair???
Of course not. He just mutates every once in awhile.

Why does Howie wink all the time?
'Cause he likes you.

Why does AJ have such an infatuation with the floor during concerts?
He's looking for loose change down there, you'd be suprised.

I was just wondering what's the greatest lesson you've learned in the music business???
Always take your wallet onstage with you. I'm not kidding.

Ummmm I just wanted to know if you ever get real mad and freak out and throw stuff while your on tour.
Depends on what you mean by FREAK OUT.... do you mean like shaving my head? You have to remember that the Boys are our bosses so we try not to freak out in front of them. On the other hand, as far as throwing stuff goes, we throw a lot of things. We throw AJ out of our dressing room. We throw socks at Angie when she comes in the room when we're naked. We throw parties in my room sometimes.

What's your definition of a boom-bastic jazz style?

It'd be much less icky if he just owned up to Howie's facial tic problem *g*. And hey! ;p

The references to writing with Brian made me look stuff up, he co-wrote Time, Perfect Fan, Answer to Our Lives, That's What She Said and one or two other songs. He was with the Boys from 96-01.

There's some funny stuff with the Band mascot Guido too. But the Y2K tests are probably my favourite thing from the whole site ;)

Though they just like to say whoo would have to come close. I think there's something in that for all of us :)

I like this one

What came first, the chicken or the egg?

The egg. Remember Dinosaurs? Reptiles lay eggs. No chickens back then. They would have been eaten. Chickens are like marshmallows to dinosaurs...... Except with feathers. On a side note, when I was a kid there was a family down the street that had chickens. Me and my friends would get a fishing pole, tie a dead lizard to the end of the string and cast it into the chicken pen. When we "caught" one, we would run around screaming CHICKEN ON! CHICKEN ON!

There wasn't much to do in our town.

heee!

That's awesome stuff there.

And hey, wasn't Tommy Smith the bandmember that sued them over royalties for songs that he cowrote with them or something like that? I'm pretty sure that was him.

Very pretty icon, isn't it? [livejournal.com profile] erilyn made it and I'm pretty sure my icon wouldn't mind a little licking from your icon ;-).

::pokes around::

Indeed you're right, sadly. Shame how often lawsuits seem to happen in the music industry.

But...whoo! Cause I like to say it too :)

This one is mentioned in a few interviews I've seen, including one we just watched this weekend with Brian getting interviewed by one of the MTV VJ's. He does say they had oxygen standing by for a few weeks or so after his surgery, cause you never know what might happen.

Definitely looks like it was, from what remains. I don't think a lot of the photos are still accessible, but I'll have to check :)
