Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] iibnf, [livejournal.com profile] tapedeck, [livejournal.com profile] slashingthefox and I saw the new Aussie film Boytown, about a boyband of the late 80s/early 90s who reunite in their middle-age.

The songs are hysterical and the movie sustains the humour well (and you could slash the hell out of it!), but there was one major thing that pissed us all off, and makes me more reluctant to recommend the film. I've got a slightly spoilery warning behind the cut for how to see the film and not get pissed off.

alasen, you're going to want to read this )

If anyone has the soundtrack, I'd love to get it (we were too pissed off to buy it in JB HiFi afterwards.

I'm getting a number of people wanting to be completely spoiled for Boytown because of my warning in this post, so I'll post it here.

big spoilers for the end of Boytown )

I've had a number of people asking where did bits and pieces of stuff in The Joy of Pop video come from, so here's the complete list of what I used. If you're planing/likely to watch the video, please do that before reading the list :) If there was stuff in it that you hadn't seen before, I can add it my list of stuff to share :)

And I'd love to know what everyone else who downloaded the video thought! (end pathetic plea for feedback *g*)

SNL does House of Carters aka shooting fish in a barrel *g*. Thanks to Not Like You.

+ HoC skit - 14.4 meg

Also, the footage I used in Joy of Pop that I've been asked about the most so far is the clips from the Celebrity tour. It's from the only pro-filmed stuff I know of from that tour - it was captured from Steve Fatone's company's website a couple of years back, and has short clips from Bye Bye Bye, Celebrity, Pop, and Gone.

+ Celebrity tour footage - 37.3 meg

Lately, I seem to have been collecting a number of het pairings. Not that there's anything wrong with being that way inclined. Some of my best friends write het[1]! But yet, with some of them, I still have that feeling of shaaaame. But confession's supposed to be good for you, right? So here goes.

1. Daniel/Vala (SG1) - compared to the others, I've gotten over any shame regarding these two, really. They're just so cute *and* hot, darn it, and she's really grown. I guess I feel I'm betraying my Jack/Daniel days.

2. Tony/Ziva (NCIS) - Don't judge me! I think there's great chemistry between them, and she'd keep him in line. And possibly a gag and chains.

But you know, #3 makes #2 look positively normal.

3. Lex/Lana (SV) - feel free to defriend me, I'll understand. I'd drifted away from SV massively seasons ago, only seeing the occasional ep. But I started to (re)read a lot of stories during the year, and [livejournal.com profile] iibnf was getting into it too, so we were watching episodes. Then [livejournal.com profile] get__together happened, and [livejournal.com profile] arysteia showed us a bunch of good stuff, hooking us in firmly, so we've been working through S5 since we got back. And Lana's way less irritating and even interesting (I was deeply shocked). And her scenes with Lex are interesting too, and Lex is kinda cute with her. And I'm just Lex's bitch, and I'll just let myself out now...

Actually, I think some of the shame comes from that I have more het pairings I'm interested in on shows I'm currently watching than slash pairings. What a scary thought - I'm losing my slash mojo or something ;)

[1] This is a lie. But I wrote Mulder/Scully *and* Scully/Krycek once upon a time.
