Last weekend
Feb. 9th, 2005 04:56 pmLast weekend was very very busy and very good :)
Friday night, we had my mother's cousin and his partner over for dinner. I don't know if I've ever met Kevin before, and he and Shirley are very nice. However, it did mean I didn't get some stuff done for Saturday that I'd hoped to, so Saturday was a little more disorganised than I would have liked.
Saturday afternoon and evening I had a bunch of people around, the excuse being my birthday.
iibnf,
sinbrat,
hnix,
calemiri,
alasen,
meelie,
eponymous,
lydia_petze,
melpemone and
slashingthefox all were there, while a number of others were unable to make it, or came down sick and couldn't come. It was a lot of fun (for me, anyway, hope everyone else had a nice time *g*), and I wish everyone else had been able to make it too. We sat outside all afternoon, while I compulsively forced people to eat offered lots of nibbles (and didn't even get through everything I had), then regretted it as we ended up with lots of leftovers from dinner ;) Actually, it means we haven't had to cook much this week, so leftovers = good thing *g*. Simple stuff, sausages and spinach and cheese triangles and cold meat, couple of salads (garden, potato and chinese cabbage) and bread. I inflicted my musical tastes on everyone in the form of bizarre mix cds I made that morning, and two things were decided: all ballads would be improved by added cackling, and AJ doesn't sound very AJ-ish at the beginning of "Incomplete", he sounds like the lovechild of AJ and Brian. There was much fannish chatting, over a variety of fandoms, and it was just relaxing and fun. We moved inside once it was getting dark and the mossies were coming out, where
meelie entertained us with reading the smutty-sounding bits from "Splinter of the Minds Eyes" (old Star Wars novel), I showed off a Trek popup book I was given years ago (pictures forthcoming) which I'd never realised how perverted it was (but sadly it doesn't seem to be worth much on ebay, so I guess I'm not selling it *g*), and I made
melpemone jealous of my Stargate pictures, but emotional when I found some Michael Shanks goodness for her to borrow :) And chocolate cake was consumed. Finally got rid of people Everyone had left a bit after midnight, but I puttered around and didn't get to bed for a while.
Which was a bit silly as I had to be at church before 9am on Sunday. My cousin's son (their youngest kid of four) was being christened, so we made a rare visit to church (and I wasn't struck by lightening!). I baled on the family gathering afterwards, and went for yum cha with
iibnf,
slashingthefox,
hnix,
sinbrat,
lydia_petze and two interstate visitors:
tapedeck and
slashybits. After yum cha, we visited a couple of bookstores, collectively spent a bit of money in JB HiFi (Jay and Silent Bob on dvd for $14? How could I not!) then retired to Passionflower for dessert.
Monday morning was leisurely for me, but the afternoon was my first class in the course I'm doing, and my brother and sister-in-law came over for dinner for my birthday. My sister made lasagna, my mum made creme caramel for dessert (best thing ever!), and I got Babylon 5 season 4, Smallville season 2 and Best Bits of the Late Show dvds.
So I think I can safetly say that it was a pretty darn good birthday :) Thank you to everyone who posted lovely birthday messages for me, I hope I haven't missed anyone.
