So much more annoying than lawyers.

Seriously, the labours of Hercules have nothing on the hunt for a decent outfit. I'd prefer to take on all manner of deadly creatures, or clean out the stable of Augeus, or obtain the golden apples, than to find an appropriate (and hopefully flattering) outfit to wear to my brother's wedding. A morning wedding. In winter. Though he did have to get Hippolyta's belt, so maybe there is a connection...

If the wedding was more formal, late afternoon or evening, it'd be far easier. Or if they weren't getting married til it was warmer, it'd be a breeze. But I (and mum, and my sister) need stuff that we won't freeze to death in at the beach in August, and that's nice, without being too dressy. Mum and I spent 4 hours going through the QVB, Strand Arcade, Centrepoint, the upstairs part of DJ's that I never go into - and tried virtually nothing on. Sister and I can probably make do, but she's the mother of the groom (plus, it's mum, and being dressed appropriately and nicely is kind of a thing for her *g*), and I'm seriously encouraging her to look into getting something made, cause there's just nothing available (this was not our first shopping expedition, or even second or third, with the wedding in mind).

I'm rather reminded of my high school english teacher at the moment (I don't know whether he was quoting something or not), who commented to us: fashion is something so ugly they have to change it every few months.

Mum made the day extra fun by not noticing that the car was running on empty until we were crossing the Harbour Bridge. So after the pointless shopping trip from hell, we made our way down Sussex St where there should have been a petrol station. Yes, should have been, though given the state of the city, the building lot that greeted us shouldn't have been a surprise. So instead we drove to the nearest place I was sure had a function petrol station - which is just past Sydney Uni on Parramatta Rd. By the time we got out there, mum was all stressed out, convinced the car was gonna die any moment (which is why we didn't risk heading for North Sydney - the bridge was the *last* place we wanted to break down). But we made it, and then made it home in time to watch Australia beat Scotland in a rather uninspiring game of rugby. Some good bits, but scrappy.

It was dad's birthday yesterday, and I still haven't given him a present. I suck.
