My birthday
Feb. 8th, 2004 02:16 pmYesterday was good. Yum cha, conversation and book shopping. I got a Buffy script book for $5 (mid S2) and the sequel to a Diana Wynne Jones book (that I finished reading on Friday, and found out about the sequel Friday night) for $6. I also got some lovely presents, including some icons from
joeyvanne that I've got to upload (and here's the first one now!). Last night was spent watching "Finding Nemo" (thanks for the loan,
iibnf!) with my parents and sister, we hadn't seen it before. It was very cute :)
I owe some book recs.
littlerhymes - Patricia C Wrede's "Marielon the Magician", "The Magicians Ward" and (the similar world but unrelated) "Sorcery and Cecelia" are great. And her retelling of "Snow White and Rose Red". And her Dragons books. And her Lyra series isn't bad, either. Eeek, what else was I going to mention? Oooh, gotta go look up about the sequel to "Sorcery and Cecelia"!
This came up in conversation recently, and some people had never heard it. I really like this song, so...Here and Now by Nsync. A non-album track, it was for the soundtrack of the 1998 German movie "Widows". Good Chris, and even a non-pornover bit from Lance! 3.8 meg, please right click and save, and please don't direct link to the file. ETA: Hopefully the link will actually work now *g*.

Re:
Date: 2004-02-08 12:48 am (UTC)Katherine Kurtz's Deryni books are pretty enjoyable, Janny Wurts is very good but heartbreaking, ditto with George R R Martin. Sara Douglass is not recommended - she's got some good stuff, but can't sustain it. These are some I remember mentioning, though don't know who to *g*.
Here and Now is sweet, I like it a lot, though it's not the world's best song or anything :)

Date: 2004-02-08 12:52 am (UTC)I've read the series Janny Wurts did with Raymond E. Feist (enjoyed it, didn't love it) and To Ride Hell's Chasm (HATED it) - so, ummm, is the latter typical of her work?
Love GRRM, wish he'd write faster. Agree about Sara Douglass. :)

Date: 2004-02-08 01:13 am (UTC)A good Aussie fantasy author I like is Sara Forsyth - her Witches of Eileannan series is quite fun, and she's very nice (I've met her twice briefly *g*).

Re:
Date: 2004-02-08 02:05 pm (UTC)And you're welcome. It's a pretty song that I've grown very fond of, so I'm glad to be able to share it around. I've actually got a bunch of their rare/live/non-album stuff, I'll have to see what else people haven't heard and put it up.
