Cranford
I has thoughts! That no one will care about, cause I don't know if anyone else has seen it. Overall, I enjoyed it, and do recommend it, for fans of period pieces and/or Judi Dench or the many other fine actors in it, including Philip Glenister, Julia Sawalha (hahahaha, her father in this was in Detectives on the Edge of a Nervous Breakdown, I knew I recognised him), Imelda Staunton, Michael Gambon and many many others, including amusing (to me) cameo at the end.
OMG what a fucking depressing series at times! Lots of light-hearted and whimsical parts, but we were joking, going into this final episode, about "who will they kill off this week?" but I never dreamed it would be Mr Carter :( But he took care of Lady Ludlow and of Harry, right til the end. I loved that Harry's first thought was that the money for his education could be better spent educating many kids - Mr Carter's dreams live on.
And finally Miss Matty gets something happy, and just as my sister and I predicted - her brother came back (with no explanation for his decades of silence). But who cares, cause I nearly fell off the couch because it was surprise!Martin fucking Shaw :D Miss Smith could so do better than that asshole doctor though, so I'm choosing to believe that they don't get together.
At least they managed to pull a few happy endings out - Dr Harrison and Sophy, Jessie and her major, Martha and Jem (and Miss Matty gets a baby in the house!), Caroline and the butcher (tacked on, but at least it was something happy), Dr Morgan and Mrs Rose.
And apparently they are going to make a two-part second season/Christmas special, due at the end of the year.

How heartbreaking were Judi Dench and Michael Gambon? I wept salty tears.
Philip Glenister was made of win and I predict the boy is going to grow up to be a heart breaker.

But it's got a bit more random death and unhappiness than you may like...

Good show, but man, they liked to bump people off :(
