To con or not to con...

I just can't make up my mind (like that's news to anyone).

lastrega has a lovely post here pimping next year's HLDU HLWW con in Sydney. I thought I'd decided against attending the con, but as I read it, these are some of the things that went through my head.

- Much of the fun I've had at previous cons (I've been to three of these) is because of the other people attending, and I could just catch up with them and party a bit while they're in Sydney.
- But it's not the same if you're not at the con, and staying at the hotel, if possible.
- It's $275 for the con, and $100 per night per person for a twin room at the con hotel. Pricey.
- The guest list is very interesting - Peter Wingfield, Adrian Paul, David Abramowitz, F Braun McAsh.
- Any or all might not be able to make it. It's the nature of cons.
- I haven't really been involved in HL fandom (or watched the show) in a while.
- Partying with fans! Interesting guests!
- Spork fans, particularly with Adrian as one of the guests, will almost certainly be there. And I had a few issues with how the last con was run. Didn't even bother to go to a few of the events, just prefered to hang out with people, or recover from the night before.
- All the fabulous people who I've met at previous cons who might be there again. They're the biggest reason I'm so tempted to go.

What shall I do? Of course, if I don't make my mind up soon, it'll probably be full and I won't have to decide *g*.

I would like to go, but it's a lot of money for a fandom I'm not really in anymore. Though Peter is a fabulous con guest (I've seen him at two HLDU cons before *g*). If you were able to come out for it, that'd be even better :)

We really have a fabulous time and Peter is a kick-ass guest. I wish we could get Jim Byrnes and Lizzie Gracen again, but you can't have everything.

Sadly, the bank account will not allow for a trip of this magnitude anytime this year. :sigh: The Mister has been laid off and our money is a little tight.

But, METHOS! And I adore Jim Byrnes. I've always wanted to meet him in person, he seems like such an amazing guy.

You guys will just have to have a lot of fun, take pictures and share with the world!

Jim's fantastic, and he and Pete are the best of friends and are amazingly wonderful con guests. They sang together at the last con. And I think at one point Pete sat in Jim's lap :0

It's a shame you can't make it, but there will be much in the way of con reports and pics afterwards, so watch out for them.

Um, to be honest, I wouldn't ask that. I don't feel comfortable asking about guest's personal lives (particularly ex spouses). And with Elizabeth, her ex-husband (maybe a different guy, not sure) caused her huge problems, so I especially wouldn't be ask. Sorry, but that's how I feel :)

Heh, I actually mis-typed, should probably have been fork fan. Liky Indy said, part of a joke from a previous con. Basically, it's other fans, that for various reasons, really piss you off. Most of the reasons being their utter lack of social skills or basic common courtesy.

Mmmm, relative weights of 'people I want to see again' versus 'people I'd cross the street to avoid' is playing on my mind. Well, that and do I want to do two cons so close together, and cost and... yeah, shutting up now.

A non con get together would be good either way. Take over a hotel room, or a bar/restaurant, and terrorise the neighbours. *g*

I'm with you Hon. On the one hand I want to see people and hang out, and I'm kinda interested in seeing what Adrian is like as a guest, as I've heard some not so nice stuff about him. Peter is always fabulous and the dynamic between him and AP could be good. but I've not been really invoved in the fandom for so long that it sort of feels like a waste of money. Plus I have issues with the committee and the way the last one was run. I'm sure the hotels in Brisbane weren't that expensive, and they'll probably charge you more if you cram say 4 people into the twin room. Also I probably wouldn't come up for 2 cons a month apart so I have that whole thing as well. ah decisions, decisions.

Cost is $US200 or $A275. And I pretty much agree with everything you said. Argh, why can't I just win lotto, decisions would be so much easier then *g*.
